This color volume documents the locomotives of the Grand Trunk Western during the period 1962 -1982 when the new logo and paint job first appeared. This 128 page book examines the many lines of the SOO from the late 1950's up to its merger with the Milwauke Road and the splitting off of the Wisconsin Central. The Model Railroaders Guide to Coal Railroading by Tony Koester Price: $ 23.95
This is a 96 page, full color (230 photos), look at the coal industry in ther United States illustrating most aspects of the industry. There are chapters on coal locations, types of mines, company towns, etc. Then there are sections on the major coal producing regions; Appalachia, the Anthracite area, western coalfields as well as chapters on destinations for coal and locomotives required. The final chapter is a discussion on modelling coal operations.

This is a 52 page softcover book, similar in style to the earlier works by Mr Grumley. It provides a history of the Montmorency section of the railway which ran from Quebec City to Ste. This is the latest offering from Ian Wilson which documents the operations of CNR in Northern Ontario. This hardcover book has the same format as the earlier books, with locomotive and train photos, location maps, area photos, timetables and excellent captions. A great reference for the modeller with lots of locomotive and station shots; 192 pages.

Hamilton's Other Railway, by Charles Cooper Price: $ 74.95
This is a hardcover, 412 page story of the Hamilton and North Western Railway which ran from Port Dover on Lake Erie to Hamilton and then north to Barrie and Collingwood. The book traces the evolution of the railroad through its Grand Trunk era into the Canadian National Railway system. The chapters are organized by sections of the railway starting in the south and working north. Many early black and white photos, maps and structure plans are included. Wooden Cars on Steel Rails, A History of the Crossen Car Companies, by Ted Rafuse Price: $ 39.95
This book provides a history of the Crossen Car company and its predecessors. The company was located in Cobourg Ontario and was a major builder for the Canadian railways. The photos show examples of the cars and there is a folio section with drawings of many of the different car types. The final chapters have passenger car and freight car construction rosters by railway. The book is 168 pages, softcover with black and white photos. (2/7/06)

This book presents a 160 page history of the Pullman Company's cars and trains, from its beginnings in the 1870's until its demise in 1968. The majority of the photos are in color with captions. The history is presented by era, with chapters on the period up to 1900, from 1900 to 1935, the war years, and the postwar streamliners, with a final chapter identifying current car dispositions. This is a 128 page softcover book which examines all aspects of railroad right of way maintenance and the equipment used. There are chapters on Track, track defects, ballast and roadbed maintenance, surfacing equipment, rail grinding, speeders and hi rails and snow plows. The book features colored photographs with detailed captions, and detailed explanations throughout of the various things that need to be done to maintain the right of way and keep the railroads working. The Crow and The Kettle, by J. F. Garden Price: $ 74.95
This is a 312 page hardcover, all color, photographic review of the southern route of the Canadian Pacific Railway across southern British Columbia. The railway was built through the Crowsnest Pass, and westward through the Kettle Valley and the Coquihalla Pass to connect to the mainline near Hope. The period covered is from 1950 to 1989. The book is organized by railroad division, east to west. The photographs show vintage equipment like the C- Liners as well as modern SD40-2's. An excellent reference document for the historian and modeller alike. (29/6/06)

The Magor Car Company, by Edward S. Kaminiski Price: $ 79.95
This is a hardcover, 200 page examination of the production of the Magor Car company from the early years up until closing in 1973. There is a history of the company and photographs of the freight cars produced. About half are from the pre 1940's era, the remainder more modern production. There is a fairly extensive section on dump cars, with photos, diagrams and technical information. (28/6/06)

Pullman Standard Color Guide to Freight Equipment, 1960 to 1970, by James Kinkaid Price: $ 64.95
This is a photographic history of the Pullman Standard car company production for the decade 1960 to 1970. PS photographed much of what they produced, either in-plant, or industrial locations. Most were done in black and white, and it was primarily the 1960's that were in color. There is a brief history of the company, with most of the book devoted to car photos with captions. All are in color and they are arranged alphabetically by railroad. An excellent guide for lettering. (28/6/06)

Refrigerator Car Color Guide by Gene Green Price: $ 69.95
This book provides a color photo examination of private owner ice bunker refrigerator cars and their operation in the 1950's through the 1970's. There are photos of reefers from the steam and transition era, right up to the modern mechanical refrigeration cars. This is an excellent guide to painting, lettering and weathering of reefers. There are also photos of icing facilities and the different techniques employed by the railways. (27/6/06)

Steam Through London, by Ian Wilson Price: $ 67.95
Another excellent volume from Ian Wilson with the same level of detail as earlier volumes on CN's divisional points. Excellent narrative, town maps and photos make for a good read and a superb modelling source. Action shots along the main and good detail shots of the supporting infrastructure provide the reader with a feel as to how it was in the transition era of the 1950's. (27/6/06)

This is a companion volume to Kevin's first book on Canadian Pacific Steam. Volume 2 covers Montreal, southern Ontario, Hamilton and Bayview Junction, the Prairies and southern British Columbia, through the Crowsnest Pass, Kettle valley and the Okanogan. Excellent color photos with detailed captions capture an era long gone, but not forgotten. (27/6/06)

Kevin Holland, along with Morning Sun Books, documents the final days of steam on the Canadian Pacific Railway in eastern Canada. CPR operations in New Brunswick, across Maine and in Quebec are shown in color in this 128 page hardcover book. Plenty of on the road action shots along with many terminal scenes make this a great book for the CPR modeller and railfan alike. (27/6/06)

A hardcover color review of Canadian National steam in western Ontario, the Prairies and western Canada. The photo locations include Bayview Junction, Niagara Peninsula, northern Ontario, Winnipeg, the Prairies and Jasper. Lots of contemporary trains and scenes add to the interest. This is a companion volume to Ian’s very successful first book, Steam at Allandale. As you may have heard the first book won the prize for the best designed book in North America in 1999; and this second book is as good, if not better.
